Flowfal should run on any Apple Watch running WatchOS 8.0 or later. This means Series 3 Apple Watches and later are supported.
Unlike the Android Watches, Apple restricts some things we can do on the watch which means we need to send the data to Ableton Live via the iPhone it is paired to. So, in order to use an Apple Watch with Flowfal you will need to have:
This means you can only have one Apple Watch controlling Flowfal per iPhone. However, you can use the Flowfal client on the iPhone at the same time as using the Apple Watch client.
If you already have an Apple Watch then of course you will want to use it to run Flowfal, and in general it will work fine, but be aware that the latency of the connection will be quite a bit higher than for Android Watches. We hope that, in time, Apple will lift this restriction.
To install Flowfal on your Apple Watch just install the latest version of Flowfal on your iPhone and the app should appear on your watch. If it does not, go into the Watch app on your phone, scroll down to "Available Apps", find Flowfal in the list and click on the Install button.
When you first select a channel on the Apple Watch you will get a set of three prompts asking you to confirm you are happy to collect Heart Rate and Energy Burned metrics and save those into workouts whenever you start an active Flowfal session. Click the "All Requested Below" setting on the second and third screen to accept all the options.
If you don't allow the workouts to be saved the watch app may go to sleep when the watch is not facing you.
Once activated your heart rate and energy burned will be shown at the bottom of the Apple Watch screen whenever a workout is active.
If you didn't accept all the options on the initial Health dialog, or you want to change the options at a later date, go to the Settings app on your phone, select Privacy & Security, then Health, and then Flowfal and you will then be able to update the Health settings.
